CULTIVATING THE RESISTANCE
The Notre-Dame-des-Landes ZAD (zone to be defended) is a form of social and ecological experimentation of life in a non-market society.
Mounted by opponents of the Grand Ouest Airport Project, at Notre-Dame-des-Landes, in Loire-Atlantique, France, which is considered a useless Major Project.
The opponents defend the preserved wetland that is at the origin of several rivers: the Gesvres, Hocmard and Isac catchment areas and settle on the terraces by building huts and creating collective projects.
On April 9, 2018, the eviction of the 100 Names farm, the ZAD's emblematic agricultural project, began. This is the beginning of the repression. The gendarmes' armoured vehicles were on their way to the scene. The land occupied by farms and living areas are evacuated.
Police attack and Zad militants mobilize to resist. On the one hand, grenades were thrown, and on the other hand, barricades were built to slow down the advance of the military. The clashes also take place at night, with a helicopter flying over the area.
During the eviction operation, the police will use 11,000 tear gas and GLI F4 grenades, as well as detonation grenades and flash bullets. The latter will cause a large number of injuries to the demonstrators' eyes and legs.
The 2500 gendarmes will destroy about twenty places of life in a few days and wound more than 250 people.
